Evaluation & Therapy Services

Evaluations

Before beginning therapy, we will first meet for an evaluation, allowing us to establish an initial rapport with your child and begin to build trust. Evaluations also provide insight into your child's specific communication needs and sensory profile, creating a strong foundation for therapy.

During the evaluation, your child will have time for free play to adjust to the new environment while we discuss their history. During this time, we will also gather a language sample and observe how your child plays and communicates and any sensory differences they may have.

After the evaluation we will share our findings and collaborate to create meaningful goals and a personalized plan for therapy.

Our Approach to Therapy

At Seashore Speech and Language, our speech therapy sessions are child-led but very intentional. So whether we’re reading, playing with sensory bins, exploring kinetic sand, or listening to music, each activity will engage your child’s interests.

We also incorporate sensory-motor activities such as swinging, rock climbing, crashing into the crash pad, jumping, or spending time in our cozy corner to help each child meet their optimal arousal state to support communication.

Most importantly, we know that communication can happen anywhere, especially when a child is feeling safe, regulated, and having fun, so therapy looks a lot like play and movement!

Delayed Echolalia or Scripting ~ Therapy to Develop & Support Meaningful Communication

Therapy for gestalt language processing (or delayed echolalia or scripting) is all about meeting your child where they are and making communication feel natural and fun. Sessions will incorporate your child’s interests and sensory needs to create a calm, safe environment where communication can thrive. And we love activities like building, mixing, or even getting messy with slime or shaving cream because we know fun = more communication!

During therapy, your child will:

  • Build trust and connection as a foundation for communication

  • Move from scripting to more flexible and meaningful communication

  • Increase engagement, attention, and self-expression

Connection is always the key to communication, and every session is designed to support your child’s unique journey in a way that feels authentic and empowering.

Therapy to Develop & Support Play Skills

Play is how children connect, explore, and grow—and every child deserves to feel safe, calm, and ready to play in their own way. When we focus on play skills in therapy, we use your child’s interests and sensory preferences to guide sessions, creating an environment where play is fun and meaningful. Activities might include building, swinging, or imaginative games, all designed to meet your child where they are developmentally.

Through therapy, your child will:

  • Build trust and connection through play

  • Progress through stages of play, from exploring objects to playing with others and using imagination

  • Develop sensory and emotional regulation to feel calm, focused, and ready to engage

Our goal is to help your child discover the joy of play while building skills that support their confidence and growth.

Therapy to Develop & Support Social Skills

Therapy focused on social skills begins by creating a safe and engaging environment where children can build meaningful connections with peers while celebrating their unique differences. Sessions are held in small groups of 2-3 children with shared interests and are tailored to their sensory preferences. Activities include movement-based play, discussing problems and solutions through games, and practicing how to identify and interpret social cues.

Through therapy, your child will:

  • Build social relationships with less anxiety

  • Develop perspective-taking and flexible thinking

  • Strengthen conversational and problem-solving skills

  • Learn to understand communication breakdowns and advocate for themselves

Each session is designed to support your child’s confidence, helping them navigate social interactions with greater ease and enjoyment.
